I thought I would take this opportunity and introduce myself and let everyone know a bit of my story. I read a comment in one of the e-mails posted recently that a member was shocked to learn that men in their thirties could have erectile dysfunction problems. As a result, I thought I would post a message and say hello. I am a 29 year old single man. I am single and do not have a girlfriend, unfortunately. I started taking antidepressant medication in May. As you may or may not know, antidepressant medication has become well known to cause sexual dysfunction in both genders. In fact several of the most common antidepressant medications, those in the SSRI category, are being prescribed to men that have problems with premature ejaculation as a way to slow down their ejaculation. SSRIs have been known to cause delayed ejaculation, anorgasmia(the inability to have an orgasm), impotence/erectile dysfunction, lowered libido in men. After I started my medication, I eventually started to see some of these side effects become a part of my life. Prior to starting medication, I would always wake up with an erection. After a few weeks, I started to notice that I would wake up only partially erect and then later on, with no erection at all. I did not like or want this, but I certainly could deal with it. It was a small price that I certainly willing to pay in order not to face Life being in the depressive Hell that I was in. My sexual dysfunction became more pronounced. As I said, I do not have a girlfriend, so my sexual activity tends to incorporate masturbation primarily. I noticed that when I masturbated, it was starting to take me longer and longer to have an orgasm and ejaculate. Later on, there were times when I masturbated and just could not have an orgasm no matter what. When I did have an orgasm/ejaculation, it would be several days before I could do so again. Also, there were numerous times where it would be difficult for me to maintain my erection. I would start to masturbate, and after a while, I would lose my erection and would not be able to get it back. To say the least, this really sucked. I talked to my psychiatrist. I knew that I might run into some kind of sexual dysfunction prior to starting medication, so I deliberately chose a male psychiatrist. It is hard enough to talk to another man about this, I can’t imagine going into a doctors office and looking a female doctor in the eye and telling her I can’t get it up. Anyway, I have been dealing with different types of sexual dysfunction since May. My psychiatrist is really professional about it and I feel a lot more comfortable looking him in the eye and talking about erections, ejaculating, orgasms, libido, etc. We have tried different things. At one point he wanted me to try Viagra. I was certainly willing, but my health insurance won’t pay for it unless I have dealt with erectile disfunction for at least six months, prior authorization is granted, and that neither of its two impotence drugs on its formulary do not work. Those two drugs are Caverject and Muse. The thought of putting an injection in my penis or inserting a urethral suppository up my penis, well, makes me a bit queesy and ill. I don’t think I could do it. So, my psychiatrist and I have been playing around with my meds to see what will work for me and not cause me so much sexual dysfunction. I just got switched recently to a different SSRI antidepressant and it seems to help in reference to my sexual dysfunction. Whenever I masturbate, I eventually will have an orgasm/ejaculate. Before I switched meds, it was a toss up if I would be able to or not. It is also much easier to maintain my erections now as well. I am waking up in the now sometime with a full blown and sometime a partial erection. I am happy about all of this. I am just a bit frustrated that it seems this drug is better for me in reference to sexual dysfunction, but I am starting to think it is not as effective for my depression. I realize it is a matter of finding the right drug combo for me but sometimes it gets really frustrating. It isn’t until you do not have something that you come to appreciate it. Who would have thought that I would be nostalgic about erections, ejaculations, and orgasms at age 29. Actually, age 28, because that is how old I was when I started the medication. So, I just wanted to let everyone know that thirties isn’t the youngest that are dealing with erectile dysfunction. Even us twentysomethings are not immune to it. Well you are all probably sick of me babbling on. I wish you all the best of luck and would love to hear from others.

Trazodone is another of the antidepressants. One of my friends has been taking it and he tells me that this medication can have side effects which include prolonged erections (priapism). Other effects of this medication may include decreased male libido, increased female libido, inhibited ejaculation, and impotence. In his case, he has benefitted immensely from the medication in that he has been able to get his rest at night and overall he is feeling much better. So far, he has not had any of the ED related side effects. He has not been on the medication for long term to be able to experience longer term side effects. The above information came from THE ESSENTAIL GUIDE TO PRESCRIPTION DRUGS 1993 by James W. Long, MD. This is an excellent source of information in an easy to read format that supplements what you would find in the PHYSICIANS DESK REFERENCE

Yes, for some recovering depressives, the sexual side effects of antidepressant medication can spurn a depressive that is making progress on medication back into a relapse. In the process of trying to find a drug combo for me that works, I have come to realize that I have to be on medication. I will probably have to be on some sort of antidepressant medication for the rest of my life because I am at such high risk for having a full blown depressive episode because of my prior depression history as well as the fact that depression runs in my family. So, in my case, not being on medication is not an option for me, at least at the moment. When we trying different drugs, different doses, etc., I could tell that I was starting become numb emotionally, feeling down, etc., when my SSRI drug was being reduced. Yeah, it does suck that my health insurance will not pay for Viagra. In fact, Viagra has some really good research behind to suggest that it is helpful not only for erectile dysfunction, but the other forms of sexual dysfunction as well in reference to antidepressant therapy. As for the the insurance companies logic, well, let me demonstrate my cynical side to all of you. I think my personal dilema is a good demonstration. I would not think twice about taking Viagra. It is not cheap though. But…..if I have to plunge a needle into my penis first, and then shove suppositories up my penis, and then explain in great detail why and how neither of these drugs produce a/a good erection for me, well, then, I will pass on the Viagra. Hmmmm….I think my health insurance has just saved itself a handsome profit on not having to buy me Viagra. Also, on a side note, prescriptions for sexual dysfunction, are covered for only six times a month. Like I said, I am a bit cynical already, but I really think this has something to do with it. As with many things in life, the phrase, “Follow the money,” sheds the light on the truth. I certainly look forward to and welcome everyone’s thoughts, insights, suggestions, feelings, etc.

Hi guys, I am 40 years old and have been having problems with ED for 6/7 years, it was gradually declining. I did see my family physician and he refered me to a few urologists after all the blood work has been done, and everything seems to be in normal range. However all the urologists just said that it is mostly psychological since nothing wrong showing from my blood work. They will just prescribe me with our modern wonder drugs. Those drugs/pills do work for me. Other than those drugs, I also tried some of the natural herbal supplements which do help in some way but not always. One of the urologists did mention about venous leakage, he said is incurable, and he suggested me to wear a cock ring. At this point, without taking any of the pills, I can manage to masturbate with lube and make myself cum as long as I keep stroking my penis. The problem is that I notice in the last 3/4 years, I also lost all the erotic, sexual, nerve ending sensation. What I mean is that if anyone tries to arouse me by touching/oralling my inner thighs, balls, penis, abdomen, or any part of my body, I do not feel those exciting sensual, sexual, arousal sensation, it is only just like someone touching my finger. I rememebered before 3/4 years ago, even if I have problem in maintaining my erection, I still have those sensitive feeling, like rubbing my morning wood against the bedsheets or stroking my penis. Does anyone have the similar problem? Does anyone know if this is a psychological issue or a nerve problem? From my experience, the sensitive arousal touching feeling is one of the reasons an erection is triggered. If my body is numbed, of course I dont feel aroused. Please advise!.

Thanks

I am a 30yr old male working in Honolulu and I have had ED problems since I was 20 years old. I am looking for a good urologist here who will take the time to help with my problems. I have had girlfriends every now and then but eventually they have left because my performance was either impossible or very rare. Lately I find my libido also dropping off significantly. Very recently I have a new girlfriend and I really want to make it this time with her. I cannot discuss this because the relationship is too new and I really don’t want to scare her off. But I know she is very interested in sex and has lot of experience. I tried Cialis ordered from the internet twice in 20mg doses and it had only tepid results. It also felt like I had a flu, which made me rather disinterested in sex! I am wondering now perhaps I have some more serious health issue based on comments from people on this (God-sent) forum. I would like some suggestions for a sympathetic urologist in this city. Also would like your comments.

I have been reading many “body building” forums due to the fact that Body Builders often exp temporary impotence due to the steriods they take..many of them have posted good results with erections when they combine Proviron with any of the pills ( Viagra, Levitra, or Cialis )

Proviron is a snythetic testosterone to raise testosterone on a daily basis and is not anabolic. Easy to buy online, made in US labs, and no prescription needed. Seems very safe since its not anabolic and its metabolized within 24 hours.

Also..anyone use Zupro or any other of the many herbalist treatments available ? I mean..the chinese have been treating this issue ( ED ) with herb combinations for 5000 years..something tells me that an approved chinese herbalist/accupuncturist could really help.

All this said becasue all of sudden ( due to some marriage problems ) my previous ED treatment of Cialis (20mg) doesnt work anymore. In fact, I have always responded well to Viagra and Levitra also, but prefer Cialis due to the lack of side effects + its for 36 hours.

any thoughts would be nice to hear

Hey guys. This is my first time using this blog. I’m 34 and began experiencing erectile difficulty when i was about 31. I have talked to my family dr, who referred me to a urologist…actually…2 urologists.

The first one was a jerk who pretty much told me it was all in my head and to get over it.

The 2nd one didn’t give my any satisfactory answers, but offered to prescribe some pill you stick in your penis (doesn’t sound pleasant).

Anyway, I most often (although sometimes I don’t) have success using a generic version of cialis. Since it is supposed to last up to 36 hours, I’ve been pretty much taking it every other day for the past 2 years (my partner is 10 yrs younger than me and likes sex all the time).

Does anybody know of any long term adverse effects of using the drug like this. I would like to not have to use it someday!

Hi, I’d like to introduce myself. I’m a male in my mid-50s who is having problems with E.D. The problems are the result of SSRI anti-depressants that I have been taking for several years and will have to continue to take indefinitely. Unfortunately, due to some other health problems, I cannot take Viagra, Cialis or any of the pro-erection drugs. The E.D. problem has recently gotten much worse because I have had to increase the dosage of the anti-depressants. So I now am starting to consider a pump, injection or MUSE–but definitely not a penile implant. Even the MUSE seems too dreadful to try. But what about the injections? Does it not hurt to stick a needle into the penis? How expensive is the injectible medication? Is it easier to administer than the mechanics of the pump? Thanks in advance for your advice.
